Biography
Pat Montley, a Dramatists Guild member, has had twenty plays published (Samuel French, Playscripts, Inc., Meriwether, Heinemann, Applause, Dramatic Publishing, Prentice-Hall, Blue Moon Plays, ICWP, Dramatics Magazine).
Her plays have been given readings at the Kennedy Center, Center Stage, and the Abingdon Theatre, and productions at the Nebraska Repertory Theatre, the Manhattan Theatre Source, the Harold Clurman Theatre, the Nat Horne Theatre, Theatre Project, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Her work has been supported by residencies at the Millay Artists’ Colony and the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, and a Kennedy Center Playwrights' Intensive, and by grants from the Maryland and Pennsylvania Arts Councils, the Deutsch Foundation, the Shubert Foundation, the Mary Roberts Rinehart Foundation, and Warner Brothers.
Her plays include dramas, satires, adaptations of Greek classics, epic theatre, musicals, story theatre versions of Japanese and Native American folk tales, and ten-minute pieces. She has also published poetry in The Lyric, The Classical Outlook, America, The English Journal, and Boston Review of the Arts. Her non-fiction book, In Nature’s Honor: Myths and Rituals Celebrating the Earth, was published by Skinner House.
Montley has a Ph.D. in Theatre from the University of Minnesota and has taught playwriting at colleges and universities in Pittsburgh and Baltimore, most recently at Goucher College and the Johns Hopkins University.
