After four decades in healthcare and academia, Joyce Fontana, PhD, began to write plays. One of her first scripts, 23 Skidoo, was produced at the 2014 Durango Arts Center’s 10 Minute Play Festival. This was followed by a production of Trail Meetups, Midtown International Theatre Festival Short Play Lab (Manhattan). Satellite Buddha, at Secret Theatre’s LIC One Act Festival (Queens, NY). Exhibitions at a Picture was a finalist at Festival 56’s 2016 New Works Festival (Princeton IL) and The Chameleon Circle’s 17th Annual New Play Festival (Burnsville MN). The Road to Hell and Since You Asked were read at the 25th Annual Last Frontier Theatre Conference (Valdez AK).The Strawberry Fields Dowry Cartel was read at the End of the Road New Works Festival (Gulf Shores AL). Paindemonium, 5 minute version was performed in Houston and the one-act version was performed in Hawaii, HI in August, 2018 and as part of a weekend Play Festival focused on the Opioid Epidemic at the Tank in NYC in 2019. ZOOM performances were produced of Conference Room A, Your Heavenly Reward, and I'll Get By With a Little Help. Two short plays, In the Matter of Manifest Destiny and Rendezvous with the Fourth Dimension, Maybe are published in online anthologies. Joyce hikes, volunteers and writes in beautiful Southwest Colorado, where she lives with her husband and three dogs.
