Like a Terrible Beauty - IWD Reading.

08 Mar 2009 9:00 PM | Paddy Gillard-Bentley

FLUSH INK PRODUCTIONS THE INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR WOMEN PLAYWRIGHTS & THE CITY OF KITCHENER PRESENT:  SHE SPEAKS - An evening of women's voices.

March 8, 2009 8pm - Kitchener's City Hall Council Chambers.

Like a Terrible Beauty - a scene - Inspired by the Easter Rising of 1916 in Ireland, and the subsequent Anglo-Irish war, and heart-breaking Cival war, comes an account of sorrow, regret, devastation...but always hope.

We know the stories of Michael Collins.  We know the story of the proclamation.  The women’s stories are sadly missing from much of the history.  This is Maeve’s story, celebrating the strength of the women who participated in this rich history, side by side with the men, and the women who stayed at home, tending the farm, always fearing the worst.

A tender, funny, lyrical, heart-wrenching play that is simply about people.

Jennifer Cornish will be reading Maeve and Kathleen Sheehy will be reading Clare.

Following Act I & Act II there will be a talk-back session lead by Gary Kirkham.

The audience is free to ask questions, make gentle comments, discuss the pieces presented.

Donations at the door will be given to The Women's Crisis Services of Waterloo & ICWP.
